Bentley Buchanan was a 17-year-old senior at Marion County High School who was tragically killed in a car accident on December 1, 2023. In her short time on earth, she touched the lives of countless individuals. To honor and continue her legacy, we have begun The Bentley Buchanan Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is more than money or recognition: this is a way Bentley can and will continue to help others, just as she did in life. A little about Bentley - she was always the first to lend a helping hand. She was an outstanding athlete, and a wonderful leader, both on and off the court. She never met a stranger, but if she didn’t like you, she never pretended to. She was real! She was a devoted Christian, and voiced on numerous occasions that she never understood why people were afraid to die, knowing Heaven would be her eternal home. Bentley was incredibly humble and would have never believed the scholarship would exist in her name, in her honor. Finally, Bentley loved art and painting. In one of her paintings, she wrote “ Be a voice, not an echo. ” Bentley lived by that motto and this scholarship would inspire others to live with the same mentality. Again, the scholarship is more than a piece of paper. It is a way for Bentley Buchanan to forever live through the successes of others, which she would love. Our hope is that even in this very difficult chapter of our lives, we can find peace, comfort, and hope in keeping Bentley’s memory alive.
